The Difference A Week Makes
By: Curtis Crawford
Series: general
At the beginning of the week, as we read in Matthew 21, the masses were celebrating Jesus as their conquering hero. By the end of the week He was declared a criminal. The people wanted a king who would deliver them from the tyranny of the Roman government. What they got was a savior who died for their sin so they could be reconciled with God. They wanted a king for the moment not the King of eternity.

Apr 6, 2014ScrappedBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalJunkyards are interesting places. They have automobiles of different eras, makes, and models. It is clear from a single glance the junkyard is not a respecter of persons. Any vehicle can wind up there at any time given the right circumstances. In our lives a single bad decision or even a circumstance beyond our control can cause us to relegate ourselves to a life in the junkyard; a life without purpose, empty, and forgotten. There is hope in God’s word! It promises in Psalm 138:8 that God will perfect His purpose in us because of His mercy regardless of past choices or circumstances. We simply must confess our sin to Him and our dependence upon Him.

Mar 2, 2014Confession Brings FreedomBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalDavid penned Psalm 32 after he was confronted by Nathan the prophet and he confessed his transgressions before God as recorded in Psalm 51. David used this Psalm to teach his readers about the effects of unconfessed sin in the life of God’s children and the necessity of repentance. David’s message is simple; we cannot accomplish the purpose God has for us if we are crippled by sin.

Feb 23, 2014Don’t Play DeadBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalEphesians chapter two teaches us that we were all spiritually dead in our sins. We were essentially spiritual zombies wandering around seeking to meet our own needs and desires while ignoring God’s standard. The good news is as a result of God’s grace He has raised us from the dead and given us new life. We are no longer dead spiritually and our lives should reflect the inward reality.

Feb 16, 2014Marked by GodBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalTattoos are a mark people have placed on themselves to reflect some aspect of their perceived identity. The same happens to us as we navigate our lives. We are tattooed by circumstances, relationships, and the opinions of others; each projecting upon us a mark that we come to believe is a representation of who we are. Ephesians chapter one teaches us God seals us through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and forever marks us as His child.

Feb 2, 2014Picked LastBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalWere you the one, like me, who was always picked last? Did you dread P.E. or backyard sports because it seemed everyone was picked except you? 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 teaches us God has a different standard than man when He chooses people to serve Him. God uses the foolish to confound the wise, the weak to shame the mighty, and the socially outcast to accomplish His purposes.

Jan 26, 2014The Center of Your LifeBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalAs the earth revolves around the sun, so should our lives around our God. Everything we are and will be rests in Him. Unfortunately, we alter our focus and change the orbit of our lives. Unbelief consumes us and acts as the chain to which we attach the weight of our insecurities, fears, weaknesses, and rebelliousness. It blurs our view of the Savior, which results in a lack of trust and prevents us from centering our lives on the Father. The Epistle of Romans chapter 12 teaches us how to adjust our orbit and live a life focused on God.

Jan 19, 2014The Sovereignty of the LordBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalWe, the children of God, take for granted and are unappreciative of the sovereignty of the Lord. Psalms 33 outlines God’s sovereignty as manifested by His power of creation and the providential guidance of the world’s affairs. We can take comfort in the knowledge that He overrules the plans of men, oversees the path of men, and renders the might of men impotent.

Jan 12, 2014Forgotten TreasureBy: Curtis CrawfordSeries: generalPain, hurt, and abuse can cause us to lock away our God given purpose in a locker of depression and doubt. Psalm 139 teaches us that while you may have forgotten your true value, our Heavenly Father has not.
